Volunteering Opportunities with Henfield & District Self Help Group

The club offers companionship for those in their senior years. It provides the opportunity for older people, and those who are vulnerable, often live alone, may suffer from a range of disabilities, to meet and socialise in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. This is particularly important as Henfield and the surrounding villages are very rural. Our weekly meetings start with refreshments, chatter and board games. Then we have a homemade two-course lunch before enjoying some form of entertainment, such as a quiz, a local band, game of bingo, beetle drive etc. We have 40 members of the local community, majority of which live on their own so rely on our club for social interaction. Transport is offered via our adapted minibus for those unable to get to us under their own steam, including those who are wheelchair bound. There is no membership fee for our club and we only charge £6 per week which includes all refreshments, 2 course lunch and entertainment. We have been in operation for over 45 years and started with three members and three volunteers! We have a team of volunteers who assist with activities, prepare meals and transport members on our minibus. Thanks to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, the group has gone from strength to strength and has proved to be even more of a need post covid. We are totally self-funded.
