The Salvation Army provides a range of services to support families, young people and children through their local churches (corps) and community centres. Many of these facilities are registered and regularly inspected by Ofsted or the relevant local authority. Homelessness is a reality of our society. From street homelessness to those battling addiction, the services we offer put the person and their needs at the centre of their support - enabling people to take control of their life circumstances. Though slavery was abolished in the UK more than 200 years ago, exploitation continues. We are committed to supporting victims - both men and women - of modern slavery. The specialist support programme is designed to preserve the dignity of victims, protect and care for them in safe accommodation, and provide access to confidential client-based support services to give victims the space to reflect, recover and rebuild their lives. It is a privilege to offer services to people who continue to make tremendous contributions to their families and in their communities. Our older generation deserve to be treated with dignity, have a say in what they want, to receive care when they require it and to have the opportunity to retain as much independence as possible. People can find themselves in poverty because of a major change in circumstances, others come from a background of entrenched, generational poverty. Today, people who are experiencing unemployment need more help than ever to find and stay in work. Every person has worth and it is our desire to help all who are willing to work, irrespective of their starting point. We offer tailored support to help people become job-ready, to get a job and to stay in work and we do so as a locally-based organisation operating from more than 1,000 locations. At our confidentially-located community setting, we offer safety and ongoing support to women and their children as well as single females who have experienced domestic abuse. Each resident is respected and valued as an individual and the support they are offered is holistic and tailored to meet individual needs. Our mission is to resource, empower and support developing communities to defeat poverty and injustice and enable them to build a better life and future. We engage people to comprehend injustice and take action to restore our world as a place where justice, dignity and equality are a reality for all people. The events and services on offer are based on the needs of the local community. Some churches may offer emergency support to those who are in need with others offering continuous support to those who feel marginalised. Whatever the need, we are there for everyone.
