Your role as a Volunteer Gardener will be to help the care home maintain or devleop their garden space. Tasks may include tidying beds, weeding, lawn mowing and other gardening jobs as required. You may also work with residents helping them to enjoy the care home gardens eg utilising raised beds for planting.

By becoming a Volunteer Gardener, you can help create and maintain outdoor spaces for older people. You can also enrich your own life with new experiences and friendships. You will also gain valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance your personal and professional development


What skills do I need?

  • You will have some gardening knowledge and skills, although this can be basic
  • Over 18 Years old
  • You will have good communication skills
  • We would love it if you came with experience of garden maintenance, but it's not essential
  • You will be able to be flexible
  • You'll have an awareness of older people in the community
  • You'll have a passion for people, and gardening
  • A commitment to health and safety within the volunteering environment
  • You will be able to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • A commitment to MHA's values and policies
