Are you computer savvy? Do you enjoy sharing your skills and knowledge? Got a bit of free time to volunteer as part of a friendly team?
Our Wednesday afternoon (3-5pm) computer drop-in is volunteer-led, with volunteers supporting local residents to build confidence with everyday digital tasks. Unlike our other drop ins, David, our qualified IT tutor, will not be present at this session, so volunteers need to feel comfortable using their own initiative and co-working with another volunteer. On the odd occasion, there may be sessions when other volunteers are unavailable and you will be lone working, when you felt confident enough in the role to do so.
The sorts of things you could be helping learners with could include:
• Using a computer, tablet or mobile phone for the first time
• Searching the internet
• Setting up, accessing and replying to emails
• Paying bills online
• Downloading and using apps
• Phone storage
• Printing
1. Make a real difference in your community
Share
your knowledge and help local people build essential digital skills. With so
many everyday tasks now online, your support can make a lasting difference to
someone’s confidence, independence and wellbeing. It’s a rewarding way to give
something back to your community.
2. Develop your own skills, confidence and initiative
Build
your communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills while keeping up to date with digital
tools. This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys learning, using
their initiative and supporting others in a practical, hands-on way.
3. Be part of a friendly volunteer team
Meet
new people and become part of a welcoming volunteer community. You’ll co-work with
another volunteer during the session and be part of the wider HaKIT and Hangleton and
Knoll Project (HKP) team, making a positive impact together.
We are looking for volunteers who are confident using computers, smartphones and tablets, with a good level of digital literacy. You should be comfortable using the internet, email, apps and everyday software, and helping others with common digital issues.
You do not need to be an IT expert, but as this session is volunteer-led, you will need to feel confident working independently, using your initiative, researching solutions and knowing when to signpost or ask for support.
We are seeking friendly, approachable volunteers who enjoy helping others. Patience, empathy and clear communication are essential, as learners will have different abilities, confidence levels and support needs.
You should be able to explain technology in a calm, supportive way and adapt your approach to different learning styles and paces.
