CAPITAL is developing Walking With Wheels, a new funded, peer-led outdoor group in Mid Sussex, and we are looking for people with lived experience of mental health challenges to help shape and deliver it.

You could be involved in planning the group, developing accessible activities and routes, welcoming participants and/or helping to facilitate sessions. You can get involved in planning, facilitation, or both, depending on your interests and availability.

The group will bring people together to enjoy accessible outdoor spaces, build connections and provide mutual support. Transport can be provided where needed.

The group is due to begin in late 2026.

Benefits

Use your lived experience to help shape a new peer-led group. Develop skills and experience in peer support, group facilitation and community activities.

Meet and connect with other people while helping create a more inclusive outdoor space.

Practical Considerations

Location: Mid Sussex. Time commitment: Flexible, depending on your involvement in planning and/or facilitation.

Accessibility: Transport can be reimbursed if needed, and activities will be planned with different mobility needs in mind.

What skills do I need?

We're looking for people who have:

  • Lived experience of mental health challenges.
  • An interest in peer support, inclusion and community connection.
  • An interest in outdoor activities and/or nature.
  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • A willingness to work collaboratively and involve others in decision-making.
  • An understanding of the importance of creating welcoming, inclusive spaces.

Previous experience of facilitating groups or volunteering is welcome but not essential. Training and support can be provided.

You do not need to have mobility challenges yourself. We welcome anyone who is interested in helping create a more accessible and inclusive outdoor group.
