The Wednesday Club, run by Eastleigh Borough and Romsey Mencap, is a lively monthly social evening in Eastleigh for adults with learning disabilities. It’s a place where friendships grow, confidence blossoms, and everyone gets the chance to enjoy a night out independently in a safe, welcoming space.
On the first Wednesday of each month, from 7pm to 9pm, our members come together to chat, laugh, meet new people, and simply enjoy being part of a community. For many, it’s one of the few opportunities they have to socialise without their usual carers.
Every session is run by a small team of volunteers who help create the club’s warm, friendly atmosphere. Volunteers welcome members, offer support when needed, and help make sure everyone feels comfortable and included. Most months we run a fun theme - think costumes, games, quizzes, and plenty of chances for members to get involved. There’s also hot food, snacks and drinks available to buy, adding to the relaxed, social vibe.
If you’re calm, friendly, sociable, a good listener, and genuinely interested in people, you might be exactly who we’re looking for. Experience with learning disabilities is helpful - whether through family, work, or volunteering - but just as important is your attitude and willingness to connect.
Volunteering with us means giving just two hours a month, but the impact you’ll have is far bigger. You’ll help create a space where adults with learning disabilities can enjoy independence, friendship, and fun.
If you’d like to be part of something meaningful, we’d love to hear from you.
All reasonable expenses will be covered, for instance mileage costs for travelling to the club.
You will need to: - be within reasonable travelling distance of Eastleigh - have your own means to travel to the club
Volunteers must be over 18. A DBS criminal record check will be required.
