Treasurer (Board of Trustees)

We are looking for a Volunteer Treasurer to join our Board and support our organisation. This is a unique opportunity to play an important role within a well-established community and voluntary sector organisation that has been supporting the local community for over 30 years. Working alongside our management accountant and CEO, you'll help ensure the charity's finances remain healthy, transparent, and well-governed. You'll bring professional oversight to our accounts and help guide strategic financial decisions as part of the Board.
You would be expected to attend the Board meetings in person, though day-to-day financial oversight can largely be done from home.
What skills do I need?
- Accountancy or finance background (essential)
- Experience overseeing accounts and financial reporting
- Strong financial understanding and experience of budgets, management accounts, financial planning, risk and governance
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to review and challenge financial information constructively
- Good communication skills, with the ability to explain financial matters to non-financial trustees
- Knowledge of the voluntary sector or previous experience within a charitable environment (beneficial, not essential)
- Commitment to the values and purpose of the organisation
- A professional financial qualification is desirable
- Leadership role within the finance, audit and risk committee

The Board meets quarterly—every 3 months—on Monday afternoons, 3:30–6:00pm, with the AGM held annually in November on a Wednesday. This is an active role: between meetings, you'll work with our management accountant and CEO to oversee the accounts, so some flexibility for remote/home-based work is needed. You would be expected to attend the Board meetings in person, though day-to-day financial oversight can largely be done from home. We're looking for someone who can commit to the quarterly meeting cycle and be responsive between meetings when needed.
