Are you organised, creative and confident with digital platforms?

Could you be our next: Social Media Co-ordinator?

At Basingstoke & Deane Sea Cadets, we are looking for someone dynamic and creative to help our Unit shine online.

If you love crafting eye‑catching posts, telling real stories, and boosting community engagement, we would love you to join our dedicated team.

This is a vital and rewarding role which will help keep Basingstoke & Deane Sea Cadets' profile in the public eye.

Volunteers joining the unit as a Marketing & Social Media Co-ordinator would be part of our Unit Management Team (Team of Trustees) and would work with the other Trustees to support the management of an effective and successful Sea Cadet unit.

The tasks of a Marketing and Social Media Co-ordinator include but are not restricted to the following:

  • Raise awareness of the unit to the local community through marketing and press releases.
  • Provide support and guidance to the unit on marketing and communications matters.
  • Develop links with local media and promote the use of social media to advertise the unit.
  • Manage and update the Sea Cadet unit web pages and Facebook accounts.
  • Support the design and production of the unit’s newsletters and notice boards.
  • Attend a regular UMT meeting - usually 1 hour, monthly or bi-monthly, on a weekday evening

What skills do I need?

We are seeking a Marketing and Social Media Co-ordinator who is passionate about promoting our Sea Cadet Unit, celebrating the achievements of our young people, and helping us connect with the local community.

While this list outlines desirable skills and experience, we encourage anyone who is enthusiastic about our mission and feels they can contribute to apply.

  • Social Media Skills: Experience creating and managing engaging content across social media platforms.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to promote the Unit positively and professionally.
  • Creativity: Ability to showcase activities, events, and achievements through photos, videos, and stories.
  • Community Engagement: An interest in building awareness of the Unit and supporting recruitment, fundraising, and local partnerships.
  • Availability: Willingness to dedicate time to managing content, supporting events, and completing related tasks in your own time.

This is a rewarding opportunity to help raise the profile of the Unit and support more young people to benefit from Sea Cadets.

All new volunteers are required to complete mandatory e-learning modules. This is to ensure that you gain a good level of understanding of Sea Cadets practices.

 These courses include:

• Adult Induction

• Sea Cadets – Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

• Safeguarding at Sea Cadets – Introduction & Virtual/Live Courses

• Sea Cadets – Responsible for Information

• Sea Cadets – Health and Safety

Thereafter, should volunteers wish to undertake further training in specific areas, they can discuss this with their Officer in Charge and be booked onto relevant training.
