About the Project

The Equal Skies Charter is an industry led initiative by Aerobility that aims to increase the number of disabled people working in aviation and aerospace. The project focuses on three key areas:

  • Raising Awareness: Sharing practical resources, signposting support, and engaging the sector through social media.
  • Research: Developing surveys, case studies, and white papers to help fill the current gap in disability employment data across aviation and aerospace.
  • Connecting People: Creating opportunities for disabled people and industry professionals to meet, learn from one another, and collaborate through partner meetings and Connect Sessions.

Equal Skies currently works with 20 partner organisations and has a growing community of disabled individuals who engage through our events and mailing list. In 2026 our focus is to make meaningful progress on three core strands – developing the Equal Skies Network for disabled professionals and aspiring industry entrants, launching a mentoring offer, and strengthening our partner relationships.

About the Role

We are looking for a confident and self-motivated volunteer who enjoys working with a variety of people and cares deeply about inclusion. Equal Skies is already a well built and well supported programme, with clear plans in place for the first half of 2026. We are looking for someone to manage the project while our current Advocacy Manager is on sabbatical, also bringing their own ideas and energy to the project.

Aerobility is an organised environment with guidance available whenever you need it. This 6-month opportunity gives you the space to contribute, try new approaches, and help shape the future of accessibility within aviation.

Your day-to-day work may include planning small employability events, building relationships with new and existing partners, hosting engaging and accessible meetings, and preparing updates for partners and funders.

You will work with Aerobility’s CEO, Mike Miller-Smith, and will be supported by a dedicated team of volunteers already involved in the Equal Skies programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Share progress updates with the project founder.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry partners.
  • Oversee Equal Skies social media channels.
  • Support the development of the Equal Skies Network.
  • Contribute to the creation of a mentoring programme.

What skills do I need?

  • Communication Skills: Clear written and verbal communication, confident speaking with partners and community members.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to create and maintain positive partnerships across organisations.
  • Organisational Skills: Good planning, prioritising, and coordination skills.
  • Project Coordination: Experience or interest in supporting projects and keeping activities on track.
  • Event Support / Event Planning: Useful for hosting small employability events or meetings.
  • Social Media Management: Confident using social media to share updates and engage the community.
  • Administration: Comfortable with general admin tasks, preparing updates, and managing information.
  • Teamwork: Happy working with a small, supportive volunteer team and CEO.
  • Initiative and Proactivity: Able to work independently, suggest ideas, and take ownership of tasks.
  • Inclusivity and Disability Awareness: A commitment to accessibility and inclusion, with sensitivity when working with disabled individuals.
  • Research or Information Gathering: Helpful for supporting small research tasks or collating partner updates.
  • Mentoring / Coaching Interest: Useful given the development of the mentoring programme.
