Who Are We?
We’re a local charity with a big ambition: to help everyone face death informed, supported and pain free. Providing expert hospice care, we’re there for people in West Sussex and East Surrey when life comes full circle.
We also pioneer standards in end of life care through collaboration, research and training, reaching even more people facing death and bereavement.
The Role:
Ready to hit the road and make a real difference this New Year? Join St Catherine’s Hospice as a Volunteer Christmas Tree Driver and help us recycle Christmas trees while raising vital funds for hospice care.
You’ll be behind the wheel, navigating a pre-planned route across Surrey and Sussex with your trusty assistant, collecting trees from generous supporters and delivering them to recycling points. It’s a hands-on, feel-good role that keeps you active and connected with your community.
All you need is a suitable vehicle, a valid license, and the required documentation to drive on our behalf—we’ll guide you through the rest. Every tree you collect helps fund compassionate care for local people when it matters most.
Why we want you:
Help us collect and recycle Christmas trees, raising vital funds for our charity! Working in pairs, you'll pick up trees from supporters, trim them for easier loading, and transport them to drop-off points. By being the driver of the van, you will be required to provide the relevant documentation to ensure you are compliant to drive for us. If you would prefer not to drive, please apply for our Volunteer Christmas Tree Assistant role.
What you will be doing:
Follow a specified route, driving to collect all trees indicated on route from the outside of their properties, loading the trees into the van and off-loading at the designated recycling facility. Ensuring all compliance checks requested by the Volunteering Team are completed ahead of the event. Maintaining your own vehicle to the standard requirement by current legislation.
What's in it for you:
Satisfaction of helping St Catherine’s Hospice to support local people and their loved ones when its needed most. Full training and support throughout your role Travel expenses reimbursed (following our Expenses Policy)
Disclaimer: We will give you training as part of your brief prior to the event. This may be delivered face to face, via MS Teams or online. You will be given details of this by the event organiser before the event.
