Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter has been giving animals a second chance since 1896, and our ability to do that depends entirely on the income we generate. Every pound raised through fundraising events goes directly towards the care, rehabilitation and rehoming of the dogs and cats in our care, covering everything from veterinary treatment and specialist diets to training programmes and daily welfare needs. As a fundraising & events ambassador, you are the public face of our charity in the community. The conversations you have, the enthusiasm you bring and the connections you make at events can inspire people to donate, volunteer or adopt - creating a ripple effect that reaches far beyond the event itself.

What you will be doing:

This is a flexible, people-focused role that takes place at a variety of external venues and events across the local area. As part of our bank of fundraising volunteers, you will be called upon to represent the shelter at events that suit your availability.

• Representing Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter at third party and partner events
• Setting up, managing and packing down shelter stalls at external venues and community events
• Operating bucket and tin collections at supermarkets, retail venues and other public locations
• Engaging confidently and enthusiastically with members of the public, sharing the story of our shelter and inspiring people to support our cause
• Answering questions about the shelter's work accurately and positively, directing any complex queries to the appropriate member of staff
• Handling cash and donations responsibly and in line with shelter procedures
• Acting as a positive and professional ambassador for Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter at all times whilst representing the charity in public

This is a flexible role suited to volunteers who are unable to commit to a set weekly session.

You will join a bank of fundraising volunteers who are called upon to attend events as and when they arise.

Events may take place during the day or in the evening, and at a variety of locations across the local area.

We will always give you as much notice as possible and will only ever ask you to attend events that suit your availability.

What skills do I need?

• A confident, warm and outgoing personality. The ability to approach and engage members of the public with ease is essential for this role
• Good communication skills and the ability to represent the shelter professionally across a wide range of audiences and settings
• The ability to work both as part of a small team and independently using your own initiative
• Flexibility and availability to attend events at varying times, including daytime and evening
• Previous experience in public speaking, presentations, sales, fundraising or customer-facing roles is a real advantage, though not essential
• A full driving licence is an advantage, as events may be held across the wider North Tyneside and Newcastle area
• Local knowledge of the area is helpful but not essential
• Enthusiasm, reliability and a genuine love of dogs and cats!
