We’re looking for a practical, friendly volunteer to join our team at The Shrewsbury Ark and help us keep our centre running smoothly.
What you’ll be doing:
Carrying out light carpentry tasks
Helping to move and set up furniture
Supporting with painting and decorating projects
Assisting with gardening and outdoor upkeep
Tackling small maintenance and DIY jobs around the centre
Skills and Experience
No formal qualifications are needed. Basic DIY skills would be really useful, and any experience in carpentry, decorating, or gardening would be a bonus — but full guidance and support will be given. The key things are a willingness to get stuck in, a practical approach, and a heart for helping others.

Basic DIY skills (e.g. using tools, simple repairs)
Ability to carry out light carpentry, painting, or decorating tasks
Practical and hands-on approach to problem solving
Willingness to do physical tasks, such as lifting or moving furniture
Gardening knowledge would be a bonus, but not essential
Reliability and a can-do attitude
Ability to work independently as well as alongside staff and other volunteers

Our day centre is a busy, welcoming space for the community, and keeping it well-maintained is a big job. As a Handy Person volunteer, you’ll be helping with those practical tasks — from small repairs to gardening and decorating — that make our space safe, comfortable, and inviting. By giving your time and skills, you’ll be supporting our small team and making a real difference for everyone who comes through our doors. We simply couldn’t do it without volunteers like you.
