Objective of Role

The main objective of this volunteer role is to support the fundraising activities of the charity, working independently as well as supporting the member's committee with fundraising activities. All fundraising activities should have a coordinated approach.

The number of hours for this role will fluctuate depending on events that are happening but we anticipate this role to be for 1-5 hours per week. We welcome any time that you can give.

Tasks and activities

You will:
  • support the fundraising activities agreed by the member's committee e.g. quiz nights, coffee mornings etc
  • identify suitable key weeks and dates eg Mental Health Awareness Week, World Mental Health Day and link fundraising events to these
  • suggest, agree and plan future fundraising activities/events with the charity manager
  • maintain the fundraising kit and make it available for all events
  • seek requests for donations for raffle prizes or items needed for the drop in centre
  • support the allocation and collection of EBMH collection tins across West Berkshire with the aim of increasing the number of allocations. 
  • provide support if required with fundraising events
  • work with the Charity Manager to ensure a successful fundraising plan 
  • be an ambassador for the charity in the wider community
  • undertake and engage in any appropriate training that will support you in the role

Drop in centre location: Friends Meeting House, 1 Highfield Avenue, Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 5DS. Highfield Avenue is behind the former bus station opposite the Kennet Centre (now a new development)

Office is based in Broadway House, The Broadway, Newbury, RG14 1BA

What skills do I need?

We want people with the right attitude and qualities and are looking for someone with the ability to empathise with people who have experienced mental health issues.

Volunteers will:
  • have experience of fundraising although helpful, is not essential
  • be a great communicator
  • be organised
  • be reliable
  • have a general awareness of mental health issues 
  • have good listening skills
  • have the ability to engage with people.
  • have a non-judgemental approach 
  • have the ability to respect confidentiality
  • be flexible 
  • work with members to build their confidence.
  • be prepared to 'muck in'

Computer literacy is helpful but not essential.
