As a trustee, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of Eight Bells for Mental Health. You will ensure effective governance, support our mission, and help us extend our reach and impact. You'll also champion service user empowerment and work collaboratively with our members' management committee, which shares responsibility for decision-making.
Mental health knowledge isn't necessary-what we need is your enthusiasm, imagination, and energy.
Key Responsibilities
Governance and Strategy:
- Ensure the charity adheres to legal and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans and policies.
- Support and review operational and financial performance.
Support and Leadership:
- Work constructively with the staff and members management committee to make informed decisions.
- Provide guidance and expertise to help shape the charity's future direction.
- Advocate for the empowerment and leadership of service users.
Networking and Advocacy:
- Represent and promote the charity within the community and relevant sectors.
- Leverage your network and expertise to support fundraising, marketing, and outreach efforts.
Time Commitment
- Attend and actively participate in Trustee meetings approximately every six weeks (1-3 hours per meeting).
- Engage in additional tasks as needed, with flexibility in time commitment.
- Beyond this, the role can absorb as much or as little time as you can commit
Board meetings are currently via Google Meet, usually in the evening, and this will likely continue in the future.
What skills do I need?
- Experience in one or more of the areas of fundraising, marketing, legal, financial, IT, and HR would be desirable, but not essential.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
- Commitment to the values and mission of Eight Bells for Mental Health.
- Understanding of mental health challenges is an advantage, but not required.
