About

Air Cadets is a diverse and inclusive youth organisation, sponsored by the Royal Air Force, that is keen to embrace opportunities in Air, Space and Cyberspace. It organises focused activities and experiences in flying, gliding, sport, adventurous training, drill, target shooting, cyber skills and more. Air Cadets encourages the spirit of adventure and develops qualities of leadership and good citizenship, including being able to communicate clearly, work as a member of a team, enhance social skills and accept diversity. The skills gained can help with whatever cadets want to do in life. Nationally, there are over 1000 squadrons, grouped into areas known as Wings. The Essex Wing comprises 26 squadrons, covering all of Essex and neighbouring parts of Hertfordshire. The Air Cadets Association helps with the running of the Air Training Corps (ATC) from squadron level through to representation at National Level. Each squadron has a committee with charitable status, made up of parents and friends, that assists the squadron’s Commanding Officer, raises funds and ensures the squadron maintains direction. The Essex Wing Association is made up of representatives from the squadron Associations. It assists the Wing Commanding Officer and manages Wing funds, as well as guiding stewardship and overseeing good governance across the squadron Associations, in line with their charitable status.
