As a Volunteer Teen Mentor, you will play an important opportunity in supporting young people aged 12–17 to build confidence, develop life skills and navigate some of the challenges they may face as they grow.

Through our Teen Connect mentoring support, mentors provide a safe, encouraging and positive space for young people to talk, reflect, set goals and recognise their own potential.

What You’ll Do

As a Volunteer Teen Mentor, you may help to:

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young people
  • Provide one-to-one mentoring over a short structured mentoring journey of around 6–8 sessions
  • Support young people to build confidence, resilience and self-esteem
  • Encourage young people to think about their goals, strengths, friendships, wellbeing and future plans
  • Facilitate or support group activities, workshops or discussions where appropriate
  • Encourage young people to take part in Thrive Impact CIC youth activities, events and projects
  • Act as a positive role model and trusted adult
  • Follow Thrive Impact CIC’s safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries guidance
  • This is a supportive mentoring role and does not involve providing counselling, therapy or specialist advice.

What skills do I need?

This opportunity would suit someone who:

  • Has a genuine passion for supporting teenagers and young people
  • Is patient, empathetic and able to listen without judgement
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Can build positive relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Is reliable, consistent and able to commit to agreed mentoring session
  • Believes in empowerment, inclusion and community
  • Can maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Has experience working with young people — preferred but not essential
  • Is willing to learn and follow Thrive Impact CIC’s safeguarding procedures

Thrive Impact CIC is committed to creating safe and supportive spaces for young people, families and volunteers. Volunteers will be expected to follow our safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries guidance at all times.

Due to the nature of this role, references and an enhanced DBS check may be required.
