What’s FlowState – Find Yours! all about? All humans need play – the kind of exploratory joyful play toddlers get from squishing paint onto paper and bananas into the carpet. No pressure to create anything tangible. No-one else watching. No fear of judgement. Just calm, peace and joy which comes from exploration – that’s the feeling of being in FlowState. Creative workshops and formal art classes are all very well, but for a lot of people they are too restrictive, or associated with discomfort, thanks to an education system that promotes conformity over creativity. So, we have a studio space to share - a safe, pressure-free place, called FlowState – Find Yours!, where it is absolutely OK to try new things and make a mess while doing it! It’s a place for anyone of any age who may be lacking the confidence or inspiration, or lacking the space or resources at home to embark on creative self-discovery. Using lived experience, FlowState facilitators will guide and inspire clients on the journey back into creativity. We offer a wide range of activities from basic mark-making, clay, papier mâché and stream of consciousness writing to hurling paint at blank walls and even bashing the living daylights out of an old drum kit. It’s all about breaking down barriers, undoing conditioning and reconnecting people of all ages and abilities to their FlowState. There’s never any requirement to produce works of art, poems or songs, but when there’s no pressure, that’s exactly when magic really does happen. The intention of the FlowState programme is to help people overcome their reservations or fears about creative pursuits, and to help them discover or rediscover their creativity as a means of improving mood and their feeling of wellbeing. This volunteering opportunity is an extremely important part in the development of the FlowState programme. It involves testing out various prototype activities. The testing takes place in the same safe judgement-free studio space that will be used to deliver the full programme.
