The Community Big Lunches are organised by a partnership consisting of Thurrock Council, Impulse Leisure, Find Your Active, Start Thurrock, Essex Activate and Thurrock CVS. These fantastic outdoor events are a chance to bring people together for an afternoon of outdoor activities and entertainment at each Big Lunch location. 

Visitors get to enjoy exciting workshops, performances and creative activities at each location, organised by Start Thurrock.

Impulse Leisure and Active Essex, including local providers, will be putting on physical activities, sports and games for you to try, plus there will be stalls, face painting, music and a DJ.

Thurrock CVS is recruiting volunteers who can help out at community BIG LUNCHES which are taking place across Thurrock.

The Big Lunch events will run from 12 to 4pm. We are looking for volunteers who can provide general stewarding and support, including setting up, stewarding and litter picking.

This is a great opportunity for people looking to volunteer on an ad hoc basis and wish to support their local communities. Event volunteering is a great way to enjoy the open spaces and entertainment that is on offer, as well as meeting people.

Event details to follow, but all will be between the second week in July and the second week in August.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Specific tasks will be shared with you in advance and on the day at the event.
• Setting up of equipment, including gazebos.
• General help and support to staff on the day.
• General stewarding during setup and throughout the event.
• Litter picking, help to keep the open space clean and tidy both during and after the event.
• To attend the on-site briefing and debriefing at the start and end of the event.

Support your community whilst having fun. We welcome volunteers who are 16+.

Time Commitment:

• Events run from 12pm to 4pm; support is needed from 11am to stay until the site is cleared after the event has finished – likely between 4.30pm and 5pm.
• You can assist with one or more events; let us know which you would like to attend.

Support you will get:

• Information and guidance shared before the event.
• Each event will be fully risk assessed.
• Briefing and debriefing at each event and staff on hand to assist with queries throughout the day.

What skills do I need?

No experience necessary, just a willingness to help and take part.

Things to consider:

• The events take place outside and are all day. Please ensure you wear appropriate clothing, footwear and sun protection.
• Please bring your own refreshments and food for the day – vendors are available to purchase from at each event.
• Willingness to get involved and talk to those in attendance at the event.
• Suitable footwear will be required.
• Sun protection or relevant waterproof clothing
