About the role
We’re looking for friendly, community-minded volunteers to lead our Walk & Talk sessions — relaxed, social walks that help people get outdoors, meet others, and feel less isolated. As a Walk Leader, you’ll guide small groups on gentle routes through local parks or neighbourhoods, helping to create a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for conversation and connection.
No fitness expertise needed — just a steady pace, a big smile, and a passion for bringing people together.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Lead small walking groups on safe, accessible routes
- Welcome participants and help them feel included
- Set a relaxed, friendly pace for all abilities
- Encourage light conversation and social interaction
- Watch out for any participant wellbeing needs during the walk
- Report attendance and any concerns to the coordinator
- Support a positive, respectful group atmosphere

What skills do I need?
Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications
- Friendly, approachable, and able to chat with anyone
- Reliable and confident leading small groups
- Good listener and inclusive of people from all backgrounds
- Comfortable walking at a gentle pace for 45–90 minutes
- Able to stay calm and handle light responsibilities (with support)
- No formal experience or qualifications required
- Previous experience in community, peer support, or health/wellbeing work is welcome but not essential
- We especially welcome volunteers who reflect the diversity of our local communities
- Comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing
- Mobile phone – helpful for contact and emergencies
- Internet access – for occasional updates, messages or training
- Basic safeguarding guidance (provided)
- Agreement to uphold our values around inclusion, safety and respect
- Willingness to attend a short induction or walk leader training session
