We are looking to recruit three volunteers to help deliver The Freedom Programme course to clients on a 1-1 basis, either online or in person, who are unable to attend group courses. The course explores the beliefs of the perpetrator, the different types of abuse, and how to recognise the early warning signs. The programme aims to increase self-esteem and decrease self blame and isolation.
We are particularly in need of volunteers who are available during the day (Monday-Friday).
What training is provided?
We will provide a core training programme covering domestic abuse, health & safety, safeguarding, as well as specialist Freedom Programme training. Our training takes place either online or in person. Regular support and supervision will be provided.
Further training opportunities to enhance your learning and enabling you to try other types of volunteering eg emotional 1-1 support, will be circulated as they become available.
What commitment is required?
Approximately 2 hours each week to support a client through the programme. Ideally you would be able to commit to a year of volunteering, once trained.
Are expenses paid?
Travel and other out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed to all volunteers.
This role is restricted to female applicants in accordance with Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010.
What skills do I need?
What skills do I need?
- Good listening skills, empathy, and the ability to communicate non-judgmentally with a variety of people is essential.
- Punctuality, reliability and a commitment to volunteering. Ideally, the aim is to complete the course with a client within a period of 8- 10 weeks.
- Prior knowledge of domestic abuse is desirable, but not essential as training is provided.

Following appointment and training we will contact the volunteer when client requires a 1-1 course. The exact date and whether morning or afternoon is agreed at that time between the client and the volunteer. Evenings also on an online basis dependant on volunteer and client availaibility.
