Are you looking to volunteer for your Duke of Edinburgh Award?
As a Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteer this is your chance to make a difference in your local library. You can use this opportunity to become involved in a variety of different library tasks and engage with our customers, staff and the wider community.
We are always happy to try and provide placements if we can, but there is often a waiting list as places are popular.
As a Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteer you will be completing a variety tasks each week which could be:
• Helping customers to use the library self-service kiosks.
• Providing general information about the library and its services.
• Supervised helping with children’s activities.
• Shelving and tidying.
Our libraries are busy and well used by the public, you will need to be able to communicate with all ages and be to work in a team.
This opportunity is available across all West Berkshire libraries.
What skills do I need?
This opportunity would suit someone who has the ability to communicate with people, enjoys conversations and be able to conduct tasks with minimal supervision at times.
Having the confidence to choose items for other people would be an advantage for this opportunity and to be able to demonstrate patience and understanding.
You need be able to shelve items in correct sequence whether alphabetically, numerically or in special collections and displays.
