Role Title: Learning & Schools Volunteer

Location: Bradford Police Museum, City Hall, Bradford BD1

Purpose of the Role: To support the delivery of fun, engaging, and educational visits for school groups at The Bradford Police Museum. This role is ideal for volunteers with a background or interest in education, heritage learning, or working with children. You will help facilitate activities that inspire curiosity and bring policing history to life for young people.

What You Will Gain:

Training & Support:

• All volunteers receive a full orientation and role overview. After a successful trial period, a full induction is provided. Role-specific training is delivered in-house, with occasional opportunities to access external training where needed.

Additional Information:

• Volunteers must be 18+ • An enhanced DBS check may be required (cost covered by the museum) • The museum will provide relevant safeguarding training

What skills do I need?

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the delivery of structured school visits in partnership with other volunteers • Help supervise and guide groups of children through the museum’s learning programme • Assist with interactive activities, roleplay, object handling, and storytelling • Communicate clearly and confidently with pupils, teachers, and other volunteers • Set up and pack away learning materials before and after sessions • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all school visitors

Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience working with or teaching children (formally or informally) • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Confidence speaking to groups and managing small crowds • An interest in education, heritage, policing history, or museum learning • Patience, flexibility, and enthusiasm • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team • (Desirable) Knowledge of Key Stage 1, 2, or 3 curriculum links
