Purpose of the Role:

To support the Museum’s online presence through engaging, historically accurate content. This dual-role volunteer opportunity blends social media content creation with historical research, helping to share compelling, factual stories from the museum’s collections and wider policing history.

Bradford Police Museum:

The Bradford Police Museum is an independent museum and registered charity, governed by a board of trustees and run by a team of passionate volunteers. We hold Arts Council England accreditation and were praised by The Times in 2023. Highly rated on TripAdvisor, the museum continues to expand its offer as we prepare for the City of Culture 2025.

Located in the heart of Bradford, the museum offers visitors guided tours of the beautifully preserved Victorian police cells and courtroom, alongside a gallery displaying items from our extensive collection. We are the only police museum in West Yorkshire and one of the few in the country to feature a fleet of historic police vehicles.

Our curatorial team works year-round to preserve and maintain our growing collection, ensuring the history and heritage of policing in Bradford is protected and shared with future generations.

What skills do I need?

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with the curatorial team to research and fact-check social media content

• Support the creation of well-informed stories that highlight the museum’s collections and policing history

• Capture content from public-facing activities during Fridays or Saturdays when the museum is open

• Create and schedule posts for platforms such as Facebook & Instagram.

• Respond in a timely manner to social media comments and delete any inappropriate public comments

• Research ideas for posts tied to anniversaries, cases, local events, or significant historical figures

• Monitor engagement and contribute to growing the museum’s digital presence

• Maintain consistency with the museum’s tone, branding, and communication style

Desired Skills & Experience

• Interest in local history, museums, and/or police heritage

• Confidence or willingness to develop research skills, including using archives and online sources

• Familiarity with social media platforms

• Excellent writing and communication abilities

• Strong attention to historical accuracy and detail

• Creative thinking and storytelling ability

• Experience with content tools such as Canva and Meta Business Suite

4 hours on-site with the curatorial team on Wednesday, or within our public opening hours on Friday & Saturday
