Would you like to make a meaningful contribution to children’s education, opportunities, and futures?
Would you like to give something back to your local community while using and developing your skills?
Grove Park Primary School is a maintained community school in Chiswick with just over 440 pupils on roll. We are proud to be rated Outstanding by Ofsted, and the school consistently delivers excellent outcomes for all pupils. Like many schools across the UK, Grove Park Primary is operating in an increasingly challenging financial and regulatory environment. A strong, skilled, and committed Governing Board is essential to supporting the school and helping it navigate the challenges of the coming years.
School governance is a challenging but highly rewarding role. As a governor, you will have the opportunity to:
• Make a real difference to children’s lives
• Contribute to your local community
• Use and develop your skills in a strategic, board-level environment
Governors work closely with the school’s leadership team, acting as a source of both support and robust challenge.
What Do Governors Do?
Governors are responsible for setting the strategic direction of the school. They agree the school’s aims, objectives, policies, and targets, and they monitor and evaluate progress against those goals.
School governors have three core functions:
• Setting the vision and strategic direction of the school
• Holding senior leaders to account for educational performance, pupil outcomes, and staff management
• Overseeing financial performance, ensuring public money is used effectively and responsibly
To carry out these responsibilities effectively, the Governing Board needs people with a wide range of competencies and skills. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, particularly those with experience in one or more of the following areas: senior or strategic management, risk assessment, human resources, premises and facilities management, health and safety, regulatory or financial management, compliance and education.

The expected time commitment is approximately five to eight hours per month. This includes committee meetings, full governing board meetings, reading, and occasional school visits.
Governors have a statutory right to request reasonable time off work for public duties (this may be unpaid).
The initial term of office is four years, with the option of reappointment for a further term. Governors may step down early if circumstances change.
Governance is a voluntary role and therefore is not paid.
